Home on the Range

Ah, I’m back in the sunshine state of Penang. Gosh it’s humid. It was the first thing that hit me when I stepped on that ramp out of the plane. Now I’m sitting nicely in my air-conditioned room, refusing to go anywhere else.

The flight was pretty routine. Nothing out of the ordinary to report. I’ve been doing it to and fro for the past four years. Nothing really comes to a surprise to me anymore. I’m like just sitting there, waiting for the long wait to be over.

I must have lost a couple of pounds from that twenty-something hours of flying. As everyone knows the menu on the airplane is out to make everyone look like Ally McBeal. The fact that it tastes so bland makes me appreciate the fact that they actually come in minuscule portions. And still I have no qualms about having left half of my meal untouched. That’s only airplane food. Don’t get me started on the gastronomical disaster cooked up at the airports.

From the look of things, Penang hasn’t changed much at all. Stupid motorcyclists are still throwing their plastic bags wherever they please, and Scotland Rd. still averages about an accident a day (saw two on the way home). Oh, and once again, the humidity is beyond tolerable. I’m literally melting.

But I have to say, it’s nice being home, when for a couple of months in a university year, I get to relax and have some people take care of some aspects of my daily life. It’s good to be dependent once again. Independence is great, but sometimes a break is always welcome.

My internship program with Motorola begins on Wednesday. That doesn’t leave me a lot of time to relax. To make matters worse, there are a couple of things I have to do before I begin, like starting a bank account and figuring out what would match the factory’s brown and orange uniform (not kidding).

Toodeloo…
