The Comback of the Tidal Wave??

Tonight over dinner, my parents brought up the issue of a doomsday prophet here in Penang. Shocking news really. This pastor who’s from an independent church claims to have had a vision of a 40 storey…yes, 40 STOREY tsunami hitting Penang Island in the next few days.

Apparently a few other members from her church have seen a similar vision too. As a result, she has printed about 1000 CDs of her warning message and has distributed them all over town. Is it causing havoc? I’m pretty sure it has the potential to.

She, along with a couple of her church members has fled over to the mainland. My mom commented that two of her students were absent from school since yesterday, leaving a note informing the school of the impending disaster.

So what do I make of something like this? I cant really say. But if it’s a 40 storey tsunami, wouldn’t it affect the other surrounding regions? Why was she so specific as to say that it would only affect Penang Island? Also, how come it was only she that got the vision and not other pastors from other churches on the island?

My residence is pretty close inland, so I’m pretty safe. Goodness, imaging the level of “oh thau-ness” (shame) that the pastor must face if this event indeed did not come to pass. According to her, it should happen from now until around Sunday. But then again, if it were true, she’d probably say “I told you so”.

But then again, lets say the tsunami doesn’t hit Penang. Maybe she could claim that she prayed against it and that changed the heart of God. But of course her running away doesn’t really inspire much confidence in that claim. Sounds like a “Choose Your Own Adventure” storybook doesn’t it. Boy I loved those books.

Anyway, if you don’t hear anything strange happening by Monday, just forget that you ever read this post.

if its our time, its our time.

40 storey? mainland is so flat... if it hits penang, it will hit mainland... will the multitudes of rivers n canals and the flat topography... the mainland would be as badly affected as Penang island.

again, why only the island? what about sumatra? thailand? langkawi? kedah?

if its really only the island, then its really God's will liao. Nothing we can do right? The last days there will be many false teachers. Did she receive confirmation from other pastors> Hmm...

(excerpt from a letter by NECF)

Greetings in Jesus’ Mighty Name!

We have received news from a number of pastors in Penang and also news reporters that a prophecy has been given concerning a major tsunami to hit Penang. The prophecy apparently originated from a pastor of an independent church in Penang, which is not a member of NECF.

Some pastors in Penang met to pray over this matter and corporately feel that the prophecy is not of God. In the interest of the credibility of the Church, the authenticity of truth and well-being of the state of Penang and the nation, we feel the necessity to communicate our concern. In the past, such prophecies have caused unnecessary alarm to many. We ought to tread cautiously here as we believe our God would reveal what He is about to do to His Body at large. Scripture teaches us to test all prophecies. Besides, natural factors – geological, meteorological, etc. – while not absolute, should be taken into account.

Please advise your congregation to be very careful what is believed and spread. There can be serious implications for the Christian community and all inhabitants of Penang, and the whole nation, if panic results from the rumour. Let us rather be watchful and prayerful, and continue to hear from the governing authorities. Let us implore the Lord for grace and mercy. Especially during 40-day fast & prayer, we trust that the Lord will hear and answer our prayers.

Thank you. May God bless you.

Thanks for the info Wilz. At least it's confirmed that the NECF is informed. They did thread on this issue pretty gingerly I must say.

hi..we also don't feel the prophecy was right from the start...in the end whatever it may be...we should not talk about it anymore as that could be her downfall and we should pray for her church people as they might be scattered...that is what saddens our hearts the most...the issue is also not because she is independant so she does stupid things...but that is not the issue...we really pray that Christians in Penang will stop the rumours and gossip cos the measure we use to judge this woman is what God will judge us with. Please dont be offended as we are just telling the truth...and we feel really sorry for what has happened cos ppl's lives will be messed up.
