Leaving a Legacy

After leaving the University of Michigan in June I couldnt help but wonder if I was going to leave a mark of myself of some sorts. It's always nice to have something that you can look at in the future and say, "Hey, I did this!". Of course it neednt be obvious like some plaque with your name engraved in bronze.

Early in the year, there was this competition that was held to name a new convenience store near the apartments that I was living in. Darn them, only thinking of this when I was about to leave. So I, out of fun submitted a list of about 5 names off the top of my head and absolutely forgot about it.

About two weeks later, I received an email saying that I have won USD$50 for my troubles. But of course what was worth more 10 free Panda Express meals was this....

Hitting the BIG 70!!

Well you know what they say about athletes who don’t work out after a while. Yes, they gain weight really quickly and what once was a lean, mean running machine gets reduced to a tub of lard.

Fortunately for me, I’m pretty safe from being labeled a walking tupperware of margarine. But I weighed myself fairly recently and discovered that I’m now hovering around the 69-70kg mark. Goodness. I was 65kgs early this year and I don’t think I’ve gown any taller in the past 5 years.

So out of curiosity, I went to this website to calculate my Body Mass Index (BMI). To my horror, I was listed as “borderline overweight”. Jeepers.

I told my brother and he comforted me by saying that this BMI calculation thingy is really inaccurate. His argument is that Asians and Caucasians should have different conversion factors. I’d take his word with a pinch of salt because I think he’s in some denial phase right now. Errr…I’m not quite there yet.

Ok, so I’m off to do something about it. Going to join Dad at the gym today. I’m considering enrolling for a month (trial membership) so I can get more bang for my buck. There is still hope…

A swallow for my sorrows...
